Darkness Cannot Drive Out Darkness

Lespwa Lavi’s community of Verrettes is now at the center of the political gang warfare in Haiti, now being called a civil war, and we are asking for prayers. We’ve seen breakthrough after breakthrough when our supporters have gathered in prayer, and we need it now.

Four weeks ago, a group of gangs from Port-au-Prince captured the regional police station. This highly organized group is heavily armed and has declared their intention to have military control over the entire Artibonite region.

Last week the armed men moved in to the neighborhood around our Lespwa Lavi church. They invaded homes and killed innocent civilians. The regional hospital nearby has closed temporarily due to the violence, just as cholera cases are rising.

On Monday some Haitian police arrived with armored vehicles, triggering a firefight. The situation is highly unpredictable, and likely will get worse before it gets better. In the middle of the night, many people are fleeing the city to stay in the mountains.

During this crisis, our goals are:

  • Safety of staff

  • Safety of children

  • Keeping families together

Where’s the Light?

“Many, O Lord my God, are the wonders you have done.

The things you planned for us no one can recount to you;

were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare.”

Psalm 40:5

The biggest, most exciting miracles, we can’t share yet in order to keep our staff safe, but here’s what we can tell you:

  • Our director of operations has decided to stay in Verrettes and continue to work

  • This may change in the next 24 hours, but at this moment all our staff and all children in our program are safe and accounted for

  • Today our staff were able to distribute food to many of the children and their families as they were leaving town

  • We have water filters!

God is doing something new in Haiti. The battle being fought with guns in Verrettes pales in comparison to the spiritual battle taking place over this land. We don’t know exactly what God’s renewal will look like, but we know He’s ready and willing. We can honestly say we have done nothing that hasn’t been done by His direction.

For his purpose we are here for such a time as this.

Pray with us

  • Safety of staff, children and families

  • Supernatural protection and wisdom for our director

  • No cholera or typhoid

  • For the plans of evil men to be foiled

  • For gang leaders to come to know Christ and lead many to Him

  • For national awakening and repentance in Haiti

  • For the house that God is building to be firm and to be accomplished
