Mustard Seed
If you’ve followed us for awhile, you know that food is a really big deal. Kids can’t learn without food. Kids can’t play soccer without food. The future must be fed.
But 1 in 4 of the people in our area are facing Phase 4 emergency levels of food insecurity (ipcinfo.org), which means they have not eaten today, they have no food, and they have no idea when they will be able to get more food. The majority are in crisis (Phase 3) where they may have some food every other day or so. Phase 5 is death from famine.
We aren’t willing to stand still and watch people die of hunger. Not if we have any ounce of opportunity.
In the fall of 2025, we asked you to give towards emergency food supplies for our community. We were told we might have the opportunity to purchase a shipping container of food to distribute to the Verrettes community - over 250,000 meals for $25,000. We didn’t have that money. This kind of food (protein and vitamin fortified) would cost well over $100,000 in the USA, and just isn’t available in Haiti. Our USA board of directors decided we had to make it happen because starvation is not an option. In faith, we committed. The board told our nutrition partner to find us a container, and we’d pay for it.
We asked for help. Some donations came in, but not enough. And we didn’t even know if a container would come available.
Then we got a call from our nutrition partner, Mission of Hope. A non-profit in the states had gifted them an entire container of food, and Mission of Hope wanted us to have it. We would have to pay the cost of getting it through port customs - a fraction of $25,000. When we added up all the donations that had come in for this emergency extra food, it was almost the EXACT AMOUNT NEEDED.
Lespwa Lavi would not have been gifted that container if we hadn’t committed in faith. The God who cannot lie said that faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains. But oh, how heavy that mustard seed seems sometimes. It’s hard to take that leap!
The Lord, speaking through Isaiah, calls us to true worship:
“and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry
and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness,
and your night will become like the noonday”
Do you want to be the light of the world with us? Spend yourself.
